Organized School Activities

Organized School Activities
During every 4-week session, students have the opportunity to participate in at least four organized school activities. There are different activities depending on the season. Some activities are free and others are available at a lower cost for ALPS students. The activities provide an opportunity to see the city and surrounding area and to practice English in an informal setting.

Overnight Activities
Some months we take overnight trips to nearby cities such as Vancouver and Victoria in Canada or to Mt. Rainier National Park, the Olympic National Park or to the North Cascades National Park.

Mt. Rainier National Park is a popular excursion from Seattle. Participating in organized activities gives the students the chance to make friends from different countries and to practice the English they learn in the classroom.

City Activities
Seattle is home to many cultural festivals: Northwest Folklife Festival, Bumbershoot - a music festival, the Seattle International Film Festival and many others. Nearby we can see rodeos! We also have bowling night, billiards night, casino night, baseball night, movie night, school barbecues and picnics.

Outdoor activities
ALPS students also participate in many outdoor activities such as camping in the mountains, at the beach and in the desert. Other outdoor activities include ski trips, canoeing, hiking and picnicking.

Independent Activities

Because of Seattle’s mild climate, golfers can enjoy their sport almost year round.

The Pacific Northwest is a paradise for hikers.
Some brave students drive to the coast to surf on weekends.
The Columbia River Gorge at the south end of the state is a world famous place for windsurfing.
Students can join a nearby sports club to keep in shape.

Students and teachers at Olympic National Park. Many lasting friendships are formed during activities like this one.

There are independent activities for every kind of person.

Weekends

Students enjoy independent activities as well. There are many city activities such as theater, cinema, shopping and sports to keep students busy on weekends and during vacation periods. For the student who enjoys nature, Seattle is the perfect choice.

On the Road with ALPS Students
By car, our students have visited such places in Canada as Vancouver, Victoria, Whistler Ski Area, Banff and Lake Louise. California is a long day’s drive to the south and many students have driven to San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. Of course the National Parks such as the Grand Canyon and the other sights of the Southwest are popular destinations.

Flying from Seattle
Students who watch the prices of airplane tickets can fly to places like New York, Florida, or California for reduced fares. They use their long weekends and vacations to see as much of America as possible.
