Speaking Elective Classes
These can be included in full-time or part-time classes: Each Class is 1 50-minute period.
American Idioms:
Recognize, understand and incorporate American idioms (expressions) into everyday conversations and situations.
Speech and Role Play:
Develop better speaking skills in practical everyday situations. This elective will help you be more comfortable speaking with native speakers of English.
Current Issues:
Discuss and debate current issues from news, social, and cultural topics.
Pronunciation:
Learn to speak English more clearly. Students will also understand the speech patterns of native English speakers.
Survival English:
Develop better speaking in everyday situations such as: banking, shopping, asking for directions or other information, and learning dialogues for using a travel agency, renting a car, etc.
Airline and Hospitality English:
Write a cover letter and resume and practice your interview skills to get a volunteer internship position. Learn and practice the speaking, listening and vocabulary skills used in airline and other customer service positions.
Test Preparation Electives
Students who want to focus on speaking and listening find these classes useful because of the focus on listening, vocabulary and speaking exercises.
TOEFL Preparation Class: Reading, Writing, Listening:
This class is designed for students who need a higher TOEFL score for the TOEFL Next Generation iBT. Students are required to buy the book for this class.
TOEFL iBT Speaking Class:
Practice for the speaking section of the TOEFL Next Generation iBT. Students are required to buy the book for this class.
TOEIC Preparation:
Increase your TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) score. Learn to focus on listening and reading strategies to answer questions centered on pictures, questions and responses, short conversations, and short talks. Students are required to buy the book for this class.
